Small-sailboat clubs are quaint

Most have a clubhouse, launch ramp/s for members' use, and an outdoor storage for boats on trailers. There may be a beach, club boat/s for members' use, or slips for mooring (restrictions apply).

All have one design fleets. Most offer sailing lessons for adults, and a sailing program for kids.

    On Lake St. Clair, in Grosse Pointe Farms, off Jefferson Avenue. Also accomodates larger sailboats.

  2. GDSC Greater Detroit Sunfish Club

    • Sunfish

    Established in 1963, members of this mobile, family-oriented club sail the Sunfish, a classic board boat, in and around metro-Detroit. No clubhouse/waterfront. Free trial.

  3. LFSC Lake Fenton Sailing Club

    Lake Fenton is north of Pontiac and south of Flint.

  4. LSC Lake Lansing Sail Club

    On the east side of Lake Lansing, east of Lansing. Exceptional website with many photos. Club boats available to members.

  5. PYC Pontiac Yacht Club

    Open racing for mixed boats on Monday nights to encourage the sport of small boat racing.

  6. SBCSA Saginaw Bay Community Sailing Association

    Sailing classes on the Saginaw River in downtown Saginaw; on-the-water facility at the north end of Wenonah Park. Club boats available to members.

  7. UMSC University of Michigan Sailing Club

    On Baseline Lake, in Dexter. Club boats available to members.
